Vitamin Use Decreased Risk of Death from Lung Cancer, Breast
Cancer and Colorectal Cancer

- August 2, 2009
Use of cod liver oil supplements was associated with a 44 per
cent lower risk of death of lung cancer while daily use of
dietary supplements was associated with a 30 per cent reduction
in death. Patients taking dietary supplements and vitamins
before diagnosis were associated with better survival
.
Researchers admit that “More research is needed to
understand the interplay between nutrients, whether in
food or supplements and cancer survival.”
The study of 68,518 people in Norway also indicated that the
benefits of supplement and vitamin use may even extend beyond
lung cancer. The use of cod liver oil and other supplements as
associated with improved survival for people with any kind of
solid tumor, including breast and colorectal
cancer.
Cod liver oil consumption daily for a year prior to diagnosis
was associated with a 23 per cent reduction in the risk of
death from breast cancer and colorectal cancer, and a 44 per
cent reduction of death in lung cancer patients.
Daily and occasional use of other vitamins was associated with
30 percent reduction in the death from breast cancer and
colorectal cancer, and a 45 per cent reduction of death in lung
cancer patients.
The use of cod liver oil and vitamins together improved
survival in lung cancer patients.

Natural Cancer Treatment Pearl
Researchers were not sure if taking the supplements before
diagnosis or continuing them after diagnosis decreased their
risk of death from cancer.
Cod liver oil is the most popular supplement in Norway. Cod
liver oil is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and
DHA. Fish oil capsules do not always contain Cod liver oil.
Check your supplement label for the sources of the omega-3
fatty acids.
Cod liver oil typically contains a higher ratio of DHA to EPA
compared to fish oil capsules. Cod liver oil is also cheaper
than capsules. One teaspoonful of cod liver oil may be
comparable to 4 or more fish oil capsules.
Look for pharmaceutical grade cod liver or fish oil capsules.
Pharmaceutical grade omega-3 oils have been purified to
eliminate mercury and PCB’s that can be found in less expensive
brands.
